Toxicity of Water-Soluble Fractions of Petrol on Some Freshwater Microalgae

This study assessed the toxicity of water-soluble fractions of petrol on Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus obliquus. Water soluble fractions of petrol were prepared into various concentrations as follows: 0%, 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. These treatments were inoculated with 5 mL of the test microalgae and read at 750 nm at two-day intervals for 14 days using a UV/VIS Spectrophotometer.

Phycoremediation of Laundry Wastewater Using Chlorella vulgaris (Beijerinck)

A study of the effect laundry wastewater on the microalga Chlorella vulgaris was carried out. The study was carried out using different treatments 0% (control), 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% of laundry wastewater. The microalgal growth responses were determined optically using absorbance on spectrophotometer at 750nm.

Effect of Ballast Water on the Growth of Two Aquatic Macrophytes (Azolla pinnata R.Br and Lemna paucicostata Hegelm)

The study investigated the effect of ballast water on the growth of two aquatic macrophytes, Azolla pinnata R.Br. and Lemna paucicostata Hegelm. The ballast water used for this study was sourced from MTCRARROCH vessel which berthed in Koko Port. The macrophytes were grown at different concentrations (25%, 50%, 70% and 100%) of ballast water, using distilled water as control (0%). The experiment lasted for twelve (12) days. There was increased growth in both macrophytes with increasing concentration of ballast water.
