Stress Alleviation Property of Two Fungi Isolates Applied as Soil Inoculants in the Growth of Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench. in Arsenic ion (As3+) Treated Soils

This study was conducted to evaluate the ameliorative effect of selected fungi (Aspergillus sp, and Penicillium chrysogenum) on arsenic-treated (As3+) soils used for the cultivation of Abelmoschus esculentus. Stress alleviation property of the fungi spp was done in soils contaminated with different concentrations of As3+ solution, and inoculation of fungi was done two weeks after planting.

SSR-Based Genetic Diversity and Population Structure Analysis of Selected Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus)

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is the most important cultivated vegetable in Nigeria. It has a low caloric composition with myriads of essential nutrients and minerals needed for daily utilization by the human body. Understanding of genetic diversity and population structure can be used for okra breeding. In the present study, seventeen okra accessions consisting of 15 landraces and 2 commercial varieties were characterized using SSR markers to explore genetic diversity and population structure. In total, 8 SSR markers detected 50 SSR alleles with a mean of 6.25.

Effect of Ethyl Methanesulfonate (EMS) on the Germination, Growth and Yield of Two Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) Varieties

The study was conducted to investigate the effect of different concentrations of ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) on the growth and yield of two okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) varieties (V35 and Clemson spineless). The experiment was conducted in the screen house and field at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State. The screen house experiment was set up in a complete randomized design (CRD) with three replications. The field trial was set up in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications.
