Prevalence of Intestinal Parasitic Infections and Risk Factors among Primary School Children in Amai, Delta State, Nigeria

The aim of this study was to examine the epidemiology of intestinal parasites and determine the risk factors linked to infection among primary school children in the Amai community. The research was conducted with 778 students from May to November 2017. Stool samples were obtained and tested for intestinal parasites using the direct smear (wet mount) technique, demographic and epidemiological information were obtained using well-structured questionnaires and the statistical analysis was carried out using Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism.

Seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria

Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative microaerophilic bacteria with a spiral (helical) morphology which is usually found in the stomach. H. pylori infection is one of the most common bacterial infection worldwide and in children of lower ages. Reports show that this bacterium is associated with simple dyspepsia, heartburn and peptic ulcer diseases, most commonly leading to upper gastrointestinal bleeding and ultimately to the severe compilation of gastric malignancy. Diabetes mellitus is an important factor that increases the susceptibility and risk of various infections in the host.
