Evaluation of the Antimicrobial, Antioxidant and the Staining Property of Cnestis ferruginea Ethanoic Fruit Extract

Plants contain variety of bioactive compounds known to have chemotherapeutic value some of these plants also have dyes. Against the background, this study is aimed at determining the nutritional composition, antimicrobial, antioxidant and staining properties of Cnestis ferrugenea fruit. Plant fruits were collected and processed using soxhlet extraction technique. Phytochemical analysis was determined using standard laboratory method.

Antimicrobial and anthelmintic Evaluation of Nigerian Euphorbiaceae Plants 3: Acalypha wilkesiana

Methanolic extracts of leaf, stem and root of Acalypha wilkesiana were investigated with the goal of establishing its acclaimed potency as an anthelmintic and antimicrobial agent. Antimicrobial assay was carried out using the agar cup plate diffusion method. The extracts were tested against 8 human pathogenic microorganisms (5 bacteria and 3 fungi). The leaf and stem methanol extracts exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities.

Evaluation of the Antimicrobial Activities of Selected Plant Extracts and Honey against Clinical Isolates

this study is aimed at assessing the in-vitro effect of Aframomum daniellii seed extract, Aloe vera gel, Gongronema Latifolium leaf extract, Monodora myristica seed extract and honey on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans. Agar well diffusion method was used for the susceptibility test. The plates were incubated at 37 oC for 24 h. Extracts and diameter zones of inhibition were measured. All test organisms were susceptible to honey and Aloe vera gel, and a combination of both honey and Aloe vera gel.

Nutritional compositions and antimicrobial sensitivities of Aqueous extracts of Zingiber officinale ROSC and Allium sativum L on oral microorganisms.

Phytochemical properties of the extracts of ginger (Zingiber officinale) and bulb of garlic (Allium sativum) indicate the presence of saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoid and phytic acids. Extracts of Z. officinale and A. sativum were more effective in the treatment of oral pathogens when compared to antifungi (Ketoconanzone) and antibacterial (ciprofloxacin) drugs used as positive controls.
