Antioxidant

Antioxidative and Nutraceutical Properties of Crossopteryx febrifuga (Afzel. ex G. Don) Benth.

Over years, Crossopteryx febrifuge leaf has been used as curative without knowing its antioxidant and nutritional properties. Antioxidant properties were determined using some standard methods. Proximate analysis of carbohydrates, protein, crude fibers and crude fat as well as some mineral and vitamin compositions were also determined using standard methods in Association of Official Analytical Chemists. It was found that the plant exhibited significant free radical scavenging activity and have significant phenol and flavonoid contents.

Antimalarial Activity of Extracts and Partially Purified Fractions of Alstonia boonei De Wild

Alstonia boonei De wild is famed for several bioactive properties; this study measures its in vivo antimalarial potentials as well as phytochemical, nutritional and antioxidant properties. Variants of its stem bark extract were screened for phytochemical, nutritional and antioxidant properties using established procedures.

Evaluation of the Antimicrobial, Antioxidant and the Staining Property of Cnestis ferruginea Ethanoic Fruit Extract

Plants contain variety of bioactive compounds known to have chemotherapeutic value some of these plants also have dyes. Against the background, this study is aimed at determining the nutritional composition, antimicrobial, antioxidant and staining properties of Cnestis ferrugenea fruit. Plant fruits were collected and processed using soxhlet extraction technique. Phytochemical analysis was determined using standard laboratory method.

Protective Effect of Rutin and Vitamin E on Cobalt Chloride Induced Neurotoxicity

Toxic exposures to cobalt chloride could occur from dietary, occupational, and medical sources. This study evaluated the ameliorative effect of oral administration of rutin and vitamin E on cobalt chloride (CoCl2)-induced oxidative stress in the brain of rats following exposure to cobalt chloride (CoCl2) toxicity. Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups. Group 1 received only water, while group 2 received cobalt chloride (300 ppm) in drinking water.

Protective Functions of L-Arginine on Implantation in Pregnant Rats Administered L-NAME

Nitric oxide (NO) plays a role in estrogen-mediated uterine receptivity. We hypothesize that L-arginine a NO substrate will increase NO production and boost pregnancy outcomes in rats with inhibited NO synthase activity. Thirty-two pregnant rats were randomly divided into four groups, control (10 mL/kg of water), L-NAME (50 mg/kg), L-NAME + L-Arg (50 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg) and L-Arg only (500 mg/kg). L-Arg and L-NAME were administered orally and subcutaneously respectively from day 3-11 of pregnancy.
