Antidyslipidemic Potential of Aqueous Extract of Petiveria Alliaceae Leaf on Fructose-Induced Metabolic Syndrome in Rats

This study investigated the antidyslipidemic activities of the aqueous extract of Petiveria alliaceae leaves against high fructose-induced metabolic syndrome in male wistar rats. Forty-five male Wistar rats were randomized into two groups of control (n =15) and high fructose diet (n = 30) , each group received water and control diet and fructose enriched diet and water ad- libitum respectively for six weeks to induce metabolic syndrome.

Effects of Allium cepa on Lipid Profile and Cardiac Enzyme Marker in Wistar Rats Fed with High-Fat Diet

Allium cepa has been reported to contain some phytochemicals that have possible effects on weight reduction and circulating lipids. This experiment is aimed at observing the effect of A. cepa on the lipid profile and cardiac enzyme marker of albino Wistar rats fed with high-fat diet. Improved Cardiovascular Indices with High Fat Saturated and Unsaturated Ketogenic Diets in Rat Model

The aim of this study is to ascertain the effects of different fat type ketogenic diet on some cardiovascular biomarkers in rat models. Forty Wistar albino rats were grouped into four and fed three types of ketogenic diets made of coconut oil, olive oil and butter. Ketogenic diets resulted in significant (P<0.05) weight loss. Total cholesterol in rats treated with coconut oil showed a significant increase (P<0.05) while those treated with butter showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) when compared with control.

Sub-acute Exposure to Sodium Selenite-induced Dyslipidemia, ATPase-independent Electrolytes Disruption and Tissue Damage in Male Wistar Rats

Selenium (Se) is a trace element required for many cellular functions in most organisms although also known to be toxic, has a narrow range separating chronic conditions of deficiency and toxicity. This study investigated the effects of exposure to different doses of Se as sodium selenite on some biochemical markers in male albino rats. Twenty-four rats grouped into four with six animals each were used. One of the groups served as control given distilled water and the other three groups were respectively given 16, 32, and 64 ppm Se orally in their drinking water for 4 weeks.

GC-MS Analysis of Bioactive Fractions of Terminalia avicennoides, Bombax buopodezense Barks and Lipid Profile of Trypanosoma brucei Infected Wistar Rats

Trypanosoma brucei, a causative agent of trypanosomiasis in livestock also possesses the ability to reoccur in disease conditions thereby increasing the trouble of ill health and if not treated on time could cause great losses to man. A comparative study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of different fractions of the extracts of Terminalia avicennoides and Bombax buopodezense on Trypanosoma brucei brucei infected wistar rats. The plants extract were fractionated using different solvents by chromatography technique.
