Sub-acute Toxicity Assessment of Methanol Leaf Extract of Polyalthia longifolia (Sonn.) Thwaites on Haematological and In Vivo Antioxidant Parameters in Wistar Rats

Polyalthia longifolia is an ornamental plant, which has been reported to possess various ethnomedicinal applications. However, there is a dearth of information on the toxicity profile in the administration of the plant extract. The study evaluates the impact of sub-acute administration of methanol leaf extract of P.

Effects of Black Seed Oil on Oxidative Stress Parameters and Gingival Expression of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase in Diabetes and Periodontitis-Induced Rats

Using diabetic and periodontitis-induced rats, the effects of black seed oil on oxidative stress parameters and gingival expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase were examined in this study. Eight groups of forty eight were created. Rats from Group I were used as the Control group; they had unrestricted access to typical rat diet and were not given any medications. NS oil was given to the rats in group II in addition to their standard rat chow and water. In Group III animals, diabetes was induced without treatment.

Aqueous Root Extract of Piliostigma thonningii Modulates the Activities of Antioxidant Enzymes and Lipid Levels in Paracetamol-Induced Damage in Rabbits

Paracetamol is notorious for causing liver damage due to excessive generation of free radicals due to overdose ingestion. The body has an antioxidant system comprising enzymes and non-enzymes, which help to mop up free radicals generated.

The Proximate and Phytochemical Analyses of Aqueous Root Extract of Piliostigma thonningii and its Effects on Indices of Well-being in Experimental Animals

Plants have constituted a significant quota to the sustainability of humans as food, medicines and raw materials for other uses. Increased awareness of the significance of medicinal plants led to more studies focused on the phytochemistry and proximate analysis of plants.

Analysis of Hematological Indices and Serum Immunoglobulin Levels (IgG and IgM) in Preeclamptic and Normotensive Pregnancies

Preeclampsia (PE) is a common complication during pregnancy, affecting 2–5% of pregnant women. It is believed to be associated with modulaton of immune response. This study investigated some hematological indices and serum levels of immunoglobulins- Ig G and IgM in pre-eclamptic and normotensive patients attending Ante-natal Clinic at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Benin City, Nigeria.

Testes Histo-Morphological Changes in Laboratory Rats, Rattus norvegicus, Exposed to Various Spectral of Artificial Light at Night (ALAN)

Exposure to various spectral of light at night is presently inevitable, hence the need to examine its spectral effect on male reproductive function. This study aimed at evaluating the periodical change in testicular histomorphology of albino rats exposed to various lights spectral {Blue (BL), Green (GL), Yellow (YL), Red (RL), and White (WL)} at night for 126 days. Compact fluorescence bulbs, 11 watts, maintained at 300 Lux, were used.

Assessment of Microplastics in Water, Sediment, and Fish of Ikpoba Rivers of Edo State, Nigeria

This study presents a comprehensive assessment of microplastics in water, sediment, and fish species (Clarias gariepinus and Oreochromis niloticus) of the Ikpoba River. Water samples were collected using twenty-five-litre stainless steel buckets, sediment samples were obtained using a Van Veen grab sampler, and fish samples were collected using gill nets and hand nets respectively.

Heavy Metal Concentration and Physicochemical Changes of Soil Treated with Spent Engine Oil and Organic Manure (Poultry) After 12 Weeks of Growing Cyperus compressus L.

ABSTRACT: Heavy metal concentration and physicochemical changes of soil treated with spent engine oil (SEO) and poultry manure after 12 weeks of growing Cyperus compressus was this study’s aim. Poultry manure (PM) was 10 % of 4000g (400 g) while the soil was 3600 g.

Comparative Preservative Potential of Shea Butter and Coconut Oil on Tomato Fruits (Solanum lycopersicum)

Tomato fruits are perishable. Hence several methods have been adopted in their preservation which have not been generally accepted due to their health implications. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the potential of coconut oil and sheabutter in the preservation of tomato fruits. Tomato fruits were washed and treated with coconut oil and shea butter which was varied at different concentrations of 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 % (w/v).
